Sensorial

Our Sensorial area is where you will find many of the materials that people generally associate with Montessori. The iconic pink tower, sturdy brown stairs and the beautifully precise knobbed cylinders. However there are plenty of materials you can make yourself that can fit under this category. The idea is for the materials to isolate a sensorial concept. So maybe an activity focuses entirely on smell, like the smelling jars which are extremely easy to DIY or maybe it focuses primarily on visual discrimination like the color mat I have displayed here. In many homes sensory bins are also a staple. Although sensory bins are not really Montessori aligned I do find them to be well loved by children and very useful, if for nothing more than to fill some time for some adult breathing room! I will be sharing plenty of sensory bin ideas along with my DIYs in this area.

K.I.S.S.

I think by now my love for felt has become pretty evident. I use it often in my materials and I find it incredibly versatile. The fact that I can often find it at my local dollar stores makes it even more appealing to me. Besides the low price tag and versatility it...

Color Sort Mat

Color Sort Mat

This activity is for Little Miss to satisfy her love of color sorting and pockets. While it does not entirely isolate one concept I find it is simple enough for her to engage with and I made it to serve multiple purposes as this is my favorite kind of DIY. The pockets...
