Practical Life
Practical life is a huge part of our daily lives just as it is a huge part of the Montessori approach in early childhood environments. We invite our children to contribute in the care of our home, our yard, our belongings and of themselves. Sometimes that means adjusting our home to make different spaces accessible to the children. Maybe it means a stool and a child sized toilet seat in the bathroom. In our home we set up our children’s snacks, dishes and cutlery in places our children can access whenever they choose. Practical life also means inviting the children as much as they are willing and able to participate in their own care. They help in their own diapering, dressing, and washing up. There are many tricks and tips in this area that I am excited to dig into with you!
